Because the theme is being misconstrued as a derogatory statement about legitimate mental hospitals, the Wheaton Jaycees have removed the theme from this year's event.
This year's theme never was intended to be a "nut house" as described in the October 13th Daily Herald article. The idea was a mixture the Arkum Asylum for the Criminally Insane from "Batman" and a lab where mad scientists are experimenting on patients. Haunted houses are meant to be scary. Being trapped in a mad scientist's lab is scary.
The Wheaton Jaycees are a non-profit community service organization. All of the proceeds from the haunted house are put back into the community through Christmas baskets for the needy and the Wheaton Fourth of July parade. We hope that you overlook this misunderstanding and support this event and our other events in the community.
